11/8/10 Summary

Bruce spoke with Wendy Weathers, Open Heart Kitchen Operations (OHK) Manager and asked when and at what location GOG can make deliveries of produce. She said that deliveries can be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Mocho Drive in Livermore on Tuesdays after 9:30 AM. since meals are cooked there Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Wendy said that they could completely utilize a delivery of 100 or even 200 radishes in salads in Livermore and Pleasanton during the week. Wendy was very enthused to hear that we would be making deliveries of radishes, collard greens and swiss chard. Bruce will make a bicycle cart delivery of produce to Holy Cross OHK. (organically grown and transported without petroleum :-)  In January, Asbury UMC will restart OHK operation in their new Fellowship Hall and deliveries will be carried from the garden of Grace to the to the Asbury kitchen!

    Bruce will count and/or weigh produce for Tuesday, 11/9/10 delivery to the Holy Cross OHK. Need to develop protocol for harvest reporting (another worksheet in the GOG workbook).

    Bruce visited GOG at 10:00 AM and squished and hosed aphids from two broccoli plants

    Jennifer, Bruce and Mark harvested the remaining three turnips (Julian Day 312-244=68 days; a bit over-mature with splitting roots but still tasted good) and all of the Cherry Belle radishes (312-269=43 days; over-mature and many splitting). Also harvested most of the Cherry Bomb II hybrid radishes (312-279=33 days), and about ¼ of the Giant German radishes (also 33 days) for delivery to OHK.

    Bruce made the first delivery of Garden of Grace produce to the Open Heart Kitchen at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Mocho Rd. in Livermore Tuesday, Nov, 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM. The delivery consisted of 235 radishes, 3.8 lbs of swiss chard and 4.6 lbs of collard greens. Photos will be posted. Contrary to plans, an automobile was used for the delivery.
